Construction of Fish Processing Plant inaugurated

The sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a Fish Processing Plant at Elmina (Central Region of Ghana), financed through a US$ 11 million Government of India-funded Line of Credit, was held on 17th August 2013. H.E. Mr. John Dramani Mahama, President of Ghana, did the honours in the presence of Hon. Nayon Bilijo, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, other Ministers and local government functionaries, Members of Parliament, Traditional leaders and senior government officials. Large number of local fishermen and villagers attended the function.
The fish processing plant over a total area of about 4500 sqm. is being built close to the famous Elmina Castle. M/s Expotec International Ltd., Noida (India) has been awarded contract for construction of the plant and M/s WAPCOS Ltd., a public sector undertaking in India, has been appointed the supervision consultant for the project. Construction of the plant is expected to be completed within 18 months. The plant will have a fish processing hall, blast freezer, cold storage, sea water ice making plant, fish feed plant, 40 cubicles with partition for storage and display and an office block.
