India-Afirca: A Shared Future project (IASF) a unique collaborative project of the Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, is aimed at building bridges between the youth of two very diverse cultures of Africa and India. Young people across the two regions have been engaging with each other through contests, fellowship internships, events and cultural exchanges.
The programme is multifaceted in that though it focuses on the youth, it also helps build an ecosystem with multiple stakeholders. As part of the project, a 12-day IndiaAfrica Festival, the first of its kind, opened in Johannesburg on 13th May 2013. The Festival will reach out to the cosmopolitan young population of the city with cinema, music, art and photography exhibitions, entrepreneurship and bloggers’ workshops, panel discussions and awards functions.
It will also mark the successful completion of the programme’s second edition of multi-discipline competitions. The competitions conducted so far as part of the India-Africa: A Shared Future Project have received participation of over 5000 young people from across 36 African countries and India. India-Africa: A Shared Future now has over 202,000 Facebook followers.
