Know India Programme

Know India Programme of the Ministry is a three-week orientation programme for diaspora youth conducted with a view to promote awareness on different facets of life in India and the progress made by the country in various fields e.g. economic, industrial, education, Science & Technology, Communication & Information Technology, culture. KIP provide a unique forum for students & young professionals of Indian origin to visit India, share their views, expectations & experiences and to develop closer bonds with the contemporary India. 4-5 such programmes are conducted every year in partnership with one or two State Governments.

 

Based on recommendations received, about 35 Indian Diaspora Youth in the age group of 18-26 years, are selected for each programme Selected participants are provided with full hospitality in India during the duration of the programme. 90% (ninety percent) of the total cost of air ticket (at lowest economy excursion fare) is refundable to the participants on successful completion of the programme by them.

The content of the programme broadly includes the following:

  • Presentations on the country, political process, developments in various sectors.
  • Interaction with faculty and students at a prestigious University/College/Institute
  • Presentation on the industrial development and visits to some Industries
  • Visit to a village to better understand the typical village life
  • Exposure to Indian media
  • Interaction with NGOs and organizations dealing with women affairs
  • Visit to places of historical importance/Monuments
  • Taking part in Cultural programmes
  • Exposure to yoga
  • Call on high dignitaries, which may include President of India, Chief Election Commissioner of India, Comptroller and Auditor General of India, and Ministers in-charge of The Ministry, Youth Affairs and Sports.

So far MOIA has organized 24 Know India Programmes in which 729 Overseas Diaspora Youth have participated in these programmes.

Updated Application Forms for the KIP and Revised Guidelines are attached.

Some important aspects w.r.t. these KIPs may kindly be noted and brought to attention of applicants.

  1. All four KIP groups will participate in the youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on 7 January 2017 in Bengaluru and the inauguration of 14th PBD Convention on 8 January 2017 - where PM and select Chief Ministers will participate and address delegates. Therefore, Bengaluru has been included in the 25 day itinerary of the KIP groups.
  2. In the Application Form, the applicant should indicate his preference for each KIP, in the order or priority. Ministry will attempt to allot the first preference of each applicant to the extent possible. If there are too many applicants for a specific KIP, the allotment of candidates will be on first-come-first serve basis and subject to fulfillment of all eligibility criteria.
  3. Since organizing four KIPs together is an exercise which involved detailed coordination, deadline for accepting applications is 30 October 2016.
  4. All other conditions/criteria for the KIP groups, will be as specified in the guidelines attached.
  5. Missions/Posts may kindly circulate the attached Application Form/Guidelines - as these have been revised in view of the Four KIPs being announced at one time.
  6. If there is more than one candidate, Mission/Post may clearly indicate the order-"'"'f priority w.r.t. their recommendations. mission may please avoid recommending forwarding applications of PIOs who are overage or those who have already visited India. The applications may kindly be sent by 30 October 2016 with the recommendation of HOM/HOP to Shri Ranveer Bharti, Under Secretary(OIA2), e-mail: usoia2@mea.gov.in.
